Taylorville High School instrumental and vocal music students performed at the IHSA State Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, March 4 at Central A&M High School. At this event, student musicians perform as a solo musician or as a small ensemble (duet, trio, quartet) and are
adjudicated by music professionals on their instrument or voice. Evaluated performances are given classifications of Superior - outstanding in nearly every detail; Excellent - contains only minor defects; Good - lacks interpretation; Fair - shows basic weakness; and Poor - unsatisfactory.
The ensemble of Erica Edwards, flute; Tripp Pelichoff, bass; Lydia Hopkins, drums; and accompanist Mrs. Cindy Enzor received the “Best of the Day” Award, as well as a Superior rating, as the best performance heard by the judge in their performance area.

saxophone duet; Natalie Cook, Erica Edwards and Ella Goodman, flute trio; Daniel Garrison, vocal solo; Rhyker Wicks and Paige Cunnington, trumpet duet; Savannah Sorrells, vocal solo; Adrian Gonzalez-Mateos, saxophone solo; and Erica Edwards, piano solo. THS musicians receiving Excellent ratings are: Mylie Corso, oboe solo; Riley Elam, Madilyn Elam and Lucas Carnahan, tuba & euphonium ensemble; Ella Hohenstein, string bass solo; Lukas Cottingham and Sophia Thomas, saxophone duet; Karissa Alsbury, Kendra Durbin and Pyro Kime, vocal ensemble; Savannah Branford, Riley Elam, Kendra Durin and Rhyker Wicks, vocal ensemble; Savannah Sorrells, Lauren Peabody and Hailey Brandt, vocal ensemble. THS musicians who received a Good rating are: Laney Norbeck, Emma Birge and Emma Eyer, clarinet trio.
