Congratulations to Matt Blomquist, who was named a winner of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence this morning. Blomquist, a construction teacher at Taylorville High School in Taylorville, IL, won a total of $50,000, including $15,000 for himself and $35,000 for his program. A total of $1.25 million is being awarded to twenty high school skilled trades teachers in 15 states. Harbor Freight Tools for Schools "I love giving students a chance to have a feeling of accomplishment, and love when students have to productively struggle to get that accomplishment. It gets even better if at the end of that they ask "what's next?" That becomes my validation as the teacher and drives me to do it again."

THS Educational Community, Here at THS we have implemented a new program to assist students. The program is called Lunch & Learn. Here is a brief overview of the program. Lunch & Learn In order for students to best reach their potential, it is essential for them to turn in all homework. To assist with ensuring this happens, the counseling department will be running weekly grade checks. If students are on this report as failing a class for 2 weeks in a row, and they have missing assignments, they will be required to attend the "Lunch & Learn" program. Counselors will reach out to students who are failing any class, and let them know if they need to attend Lunch & Learn. Students will be provided a sack lunch, or they may bring their lunch, and report to the Lunch & Learn classroom to complete missing work. Our goal is to help All students achieve their academic potential. If a student submits their missing work prior to their scheduled Lunch & Learn and provide their counselor with verification from the teacher, then the student will not have to go to Lunch & Learn. Our hope is that students will complete their work in a timely manner and not want to be out of Lunch! This program is not punitive. This is an opportunity for students to carve out extra time to complete essential learning activities.

Mrs. Sorrill's Speech I students completed an activity on giving directions. One group of students told the other how to draw a picture. The second group of students couldn't see or talk to the person giving directions. They learned that giving precise directions is difficult.
